November was a busy month and my reading suffered from it. Between a baby shower, an out-of-town guest visiting, and Thanksgiving I did not manage to read many books. I … Continue reading A Busy November Wrap Up
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful treat-filled day. I decided to try out a new recipe to take to my family’s house today. I saw this recipe on Pinterest and knew I had to try it. How can you go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate?
I found this No Bake Peanut Butter Cup on www.spicysouthernkitchen.com. The name of the blog alone drew me in. It is beautifully laid out and has so many tasty things I want to try. This pie was super simple. In less than ten minutes I had a perfect Thanksgiving dessert ready to go. It does say in the recipe to make it at least two hours before serving. I made mine last night. The filling had cream cheese, whipped cream, peanut butter, and chopped peanut butter cups. It is delectable. It is so rich and creamy. It is everything I could ask from a pie. Too bad it’s not low-calorie, hahaha.
It is the Holiday Season and it is time to get made up and go to parties. I thought it would be fun to do The Makeup and Books tag to help celebrate. I am not sure who created this tag, but tons of Booktubers have done this tag. They inspired me to do it as well.
Primer: Pick a book that left a lasting impression. My choice is Beloved. I am not completely finished with it but I know it is going to leave a lasting impression. It is a hard book to read but it is a necessary story.
Foundation: Pick your favorite first book in a series. Ninth House is a new release that is the start of a series. I can’t wait until the other books come out.
Concealer: Pick a character you wish you could get rid of. This one is easy for me Taryn from the Folk of the Air Trilogy. I despise her.
Powder: Pick your favorite last book in a series. A Court of Frost and Starlight is such a peaceful ending to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
Eyebrows: Pick a book you think everyone should read. To Kill a Mockingbird is such a classic. It is so important to literature and our society.
Eyeshadow: Pick a book with your favorite colors on the cover. Green has become my favorite color recently. I just think the color of this book is beautiful.
Eyeliner: Pick a dark and mysterious book. The Invited is dark and witchy and such a fun read.
Blush: Pick a book with some cringe worthy romance. I found a lot about The Diviners Cringe worthy.
Highlighter: Pick a book that brightened your day. Daisy Jones and the Six deals with dark concepts but still manages to be a happy read.
Lipstick: Your favorite book kiss. SPOILER.
Dorian and Manon. I died when it happened.
So that is The Makeup and Books Tag, If you want to tag along I tag you!

Dessert saves the day in this A Christmas Carol retelling. Verity, a small town ghost hunter, is getting ready for a Christmas party with her boyfriend’s family when an unexpected package shows up on the porch from his disapproving mother. After having a squabble with her before the party Verity decides to stay home. Just when she thinks she is going to have a cozy night in, an unexpected ghostly visitor shows up with a mission for her. What starts as a simple animal rescue ends in a life-altering way.
I would like to think NetGalley and Moose Island Books for the opportunity to read this advanced readers copy. I really enjoyed it. A pet skunk, a mobster ghost who makes jello salad, and a family redemption plot make for a fun Christmas read. I was very shocked that I enjoyed it so much. When I first jumped in I didn’t realize it was part of a series. However, it gave plenty of background so I never really felt confused. The conflict at the beginning slightly annoyed me. I think it could have been handled in a different way, but it ending up setting up the rest of the book well. I think it is the perfect lighthearted Christmas read that isn’t focused completely on romance. It also made me want to add a pet skunk to my Christmas list, to my husband’s disapproval. It’s going to be published November 29, 2019, if you want to pick it up for the holiday season!
I thought since the weather is cold and the holiday season is kicking in full force that I would recommend some cozy books to read. When I started going through … Continue reading Cozy Reads for the Cold Weather
I have just finished Kingdom of Ash and I am NOT ok. I have been reading this series on and off since March. I feel like a chapter of my life has just ended. Also, fair warning, this review might spoil the rest of the series. I won’t spoil Kingdom of Ash, but I can’t discuss it without spoiling all the previous books.
This book starts out grim. It is time for the final battle and Aelin is trapped in an iron coffin. She is being held by the Queen of Fae. She endures months of torture that alters her indefinitely. The Aelin at the end of the book is not the person we met so many books earlier. The battle begins without her. Her closest friends try to hide the fact that the Fire-Bringer is missing. Each day Aelin’s resolve fades and the fact that she is not there to lead them will soon be discovered. Friends come together and bonds are severed all in the fight to save Erilea.
I will be honest. This story starts out slower, in my opinion, than most in this series. But it is necessary. The suspense builds dramatically. The lives of our main characters all blend together for the last battle, with hopes of building a better world. The ending was bitter-sweet and had me in tears. It is the most satisfying ending to any series that I have ever read.
If you have not read this series I highly recommend it. I will be doing an entire series review coming this week, so look out for that!
I have to mention one part. It doesn’t really spoil the plot and most people already know that a reference to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series is made. What was revealed made my heart stop. It was pure bliss.
