Fall 2020 Anticipated Releases

Happy Fall! I am so excited for cozy season. It’s actually chilly in Alabama for now. Although, I think we are going to be back in the eighties by the weekend. That doesn’t matter though, because my calendar says that fall starts today. It’s time for my Fall 2020 Anticipated Releases.

The Orphan of Cemetery Hill

The Orphan of Cemetery Hill|Hester Fox

Synopsis:

The dead won’t bother you if you don’t give them permission.

Boston, 1844.

Tabby has a peculiar gift: she can communicate with the recently departed. It makes her special, but it also makes her dangerous.

As an orphaned child, she fled with her sister, Alice, from their charlatan aunt Bellefonte, who wanted only to exploit Tabby’s gift so she could profit from the recent craze for seances.

Now a young woman and tragically separated from Alice, Tabby works with her adopted father, Eli, the kind caretaker of a large Boston cemetery. When a series of macabre grave robberies begins to plague the city, Tabby is ensnared in a deadly plot by the perpetrators, known only as the “Resurrection Men.”

In the end, Tabby’s gift will either save both her and the cemetery–or bring about her own destruction.

I’ve read The Witch of Willow Hall by the same author. I loved the spooky atmosphere she created. If this book is as atmospheric, I am sure I will love it as well.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue

Synopsis:

France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever—and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore and he remembers her name.

I’ve never read anything by V.E. Schwab, but this synopsis sounds so intriguing.

The Once and Future Witches

Synopsis:

In the late 1800s, three sisters use witchcraft to change the course of history in a Hugo award-winning author’s powerful novel of magic amid the suffragette movement. In 1893, there’s no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes.

If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.
But when the Eastwood sisters — James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna — join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women’s movement into the witch’s movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote — and perhaps not even to live — the sisters will need to delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances, and heal the bond between them if they want to survive.
There’s no such thing as witches. But there will be.

Combining witchcraft and history sounds like a recipe for success. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book.

I have read two books by Kerri Maniscalco, and I really enjoyed them. I’m hoping to like this series even more.
