I’ve Got to Stop Buying Books: A Book Haul

I haven’t done a book haul in a while. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t been buying books. I am definitely buying books quicker than I am consuming them. Currently, my tbr pile is overwhelming me immensely. I think I need to put myself on a book buying ban. Anyhow let’s talk about what I bought, because it makes me extremely happy. Someone please take away my debit card…..

The Shadows

Synopsis:

You knew a teenager like Charlie Crabtree. A dark imagination, a sinister smile–always on the outside of the group. Some part of you suspected he might be capable of doing something awful. Twenty-five years ago, Crabtree did just that, committing a murder so shocking that it’s attracted that strange kind of infamy that only exists on the darkest corners of the internet–and inspired more than one copycat.

Paul Adams remembers the case all too well: Crabtree–and his victim–were Paul’s friends. Paul has slowly put his life back together. But now his mother, old and suffering from dementia, has taken a turn for the worse. Though every inch of him resists, it is time to come home.

It’s not long before things start to go wrong. Paul learns that Detective Amanda Beck is investigating another copycat that has struck in the nearby town of Featherbank. His mother is distressed, insistent that there’s something in the house. And someone is following him. Which reminds him of the most unsettling thing about that awful day twenty-five years ago.

It wasn’t just the murder.

It was the fact that afterward, Charlie Crabtree was never seen again…

I didn’t know a lot about this one, but I saw it on Book of the Month and thought I’d try it. I’ve really been loving thrillers recently.

I was doing so good, guys. I promise. When Midnight Sun was released I was mildly intrigued. I resisted pre-orders like a champ. Then I saw it in a bookstore and twelve year old me resurfaced. I’m dying to read this. I wasn’t even Team Edward. I was totally Team Jacob, but here we are.

Synopsis:

After being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watches her fair share of reality television, and does the odd job or two, including trying to convince a cannibalistic faerie from hunting her own in the mortal world.

When her twin sister Taryn shows up asking of a favor, Jude jumps at the chance to return to the Faerie world, even if it means facing Cardan, who she loves despite his betrayal.

When a dark curse is unveiled, Jude must become the first mortal Queen of Faerie and uncover how to break the curse, or risk upsetting the balance of the whole Faerie world.

I finally bought The Queen of Nothing! It was one of my most anticipated books. It is still on my 2020 tbr. I’ve got to stop procrastinating. I just really hope I love it.

Synopsis:

The new season of Rachel’s podcast has brought her to a small town being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. A local golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Under pressure to make Season 3 a success, Rachel throws herself into her investigation–but the mysterious letters keep coming. Someone is following her, and she won’t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister twenty-five years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insist she was murdered–and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody in town wants to answer. The past and present start to collide as Rachel uncovers startling connections between the two cases–and a revelation that will change the course of the trial and the lives of everyone involved.

Electrifying and propulsive, The Night Swim asks: What is the price of a reputation? Can a small town ever right the wrongs of its past? And what really happened to Jenny?

This is another one I purchased because of The Book of the Month Box. It is yet another thriller. I know I have a problem, lol.
